Who is Eligible to Apply?
If you’re studying at the Australian National University (ANU) and dreaming big, here’s what you’ll need to qualify:
- Be an Australian citizen (note: dual citizens or permanent residents of eligible host countries are ineligible).
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree at ANU, and in at least your second year at the time of departure.
- Be aged between 18–30 (or up to 35 for Indigenous applicants).
- Hold a minimum GPA of 70% (GPA requirement is waived for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants).
- Be applying for an approved exchange or study abroad program in one of the eligible Indo-Pacific destinations.
Application Timeline
Here’s a breakdown of the important dates and what to expect during the application journey:
- ANU Application Window: Applications for the 2026 round will open from 1 May to 31 May 2025 via the ANU Global Programs System.
- Concurrent Exchange Application: Submit your exchange or independent study abroad application simultaneously through ANU Global Programs. Your study plan must be credit-bearing and approved by your academic college.
- Round One – ANU Shortlisting: Your application will be assessed by a university panel. Shortlisted applicants will receive support and preparation advice.
- Round Two – DFAT Final Selection: Finalists will undergo a face-to-face interview between September and October 2025 with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Final outcomes will be announced by December 2025.
- Program Commencement: If selected, you will begin your overseas journey in 2026.
