Program Overview
Project Title: Transport and Chemical Transformation of City Plumes in Bremen
The PhD project investigates the dynamics of air pollution in Bremen by studying key pollutants like ammonia, aerosols, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It aims to analyze the role of urban vegetation, industrial emissions, and agricultural sources in the chemical transformation of city plumes. The research will be conducted through advanced in-situ measurements and atmospheric modeling.
You will join a well-equipped institute with ongoing collaborations and access to state-of-the-art multi-gas analyzers and data from the BLUES monitoring network.
The Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate a high-precision urban air monitoring station.
- Analyze collected data in relation to meteorological models and satellite observations.
Teach 2–3 hours per University of Bremen PhD Scholarship 2025 in Environmental Physics
- week in Bachelor’s/Master’s physics courses.
- Collaborate in ongoing research, assist in publications, and develop your PhD thesis.
- Participate in university self-administration duties.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A completed Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics or Atmospheric Sciences with a grade better than 2.0 (Germany) or B grade (Anglo-Saxon system).
- Experimental skills and a strong interest in atmospheric chemistry and physics.
- Programming skills (preferably in Python and Labview).
- Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
