New PTA Tax Values For Used Samsung Galaxy S22 Series in Pakistan

FBR has recently revised the customs values used to determine taxes on importing smartphones. This applies to the import of used phones into Pakistan from brands including Samsung, Google, Apple, and OnePlus.

This means importers will have to pay less tax on importing these phones, which should translate to cheaper old-generation phones for us very soon. We have already brought you the new PTA tax values on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, so now we bring you new rates on the Galaxy S22 lineup.

New PTA Taxes on Samsung Galaxy S22

The Galaxy S22 family of phones includes the base Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. Here are the new rates applicable to the import of these phones.

According to FBR’s updated customs value list, a used Galaxy S22 has a value of $80, which translates to a PTA tax of Rs. 7,432. Adding this to the usual price tag of a used non-PTA Samsung Galaxy S22 in the local market, which is around Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 100,000, we get an expected final retail value of Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 110,000, keeping in mind variable prices and profit margins on used phones.

Moving up the list, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ has a new custom value of $75, which is lower than the vanilla phone’s value for some odd reason. This means it should have a PTA tax value of around Rs. 7,180. The final retail price for this phone should then be around Rs. 110,000 to Rs. 120,000.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a custom value of $160, which means it should carry a PTA tax on imports of around Rs. 18,000. A non-PTA Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in used condition can be found for somewhere between Rs. 110,000 to Rs. 150,000, meaning the new retail value after the tax changes should fall at around Rs. 130,000 to Rs. 170,000.
