India had confirmed its passage into the Asian Games 2026 men’s hockey semifinals after its 2-0 win over Japan earlier in the group stage.
India is set to face Pakistan in the men’s hockey semifinals at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Earlier in the day, South Korea beat host Japan 3-2 in the another Pool A fixture, a result that moved Korea into second place in the group. If this match would have been a draw, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side’s clash against its arch-rival would have been confirmed even before it took the field against Bangladesh in their final group-stage fixture.
However, the door was still slightly ajar for the Indian team to finish second in the group. For that to happen, Bangladesh would have needed a thumping victory (by at least around 26 goals) over the defending champion to make India’s goal difference (35) inferior to Korea’s (10).
But it was the Craig Fulton-coached team which came away with a 10-0 win over Bangladesh to finish its group-stage campaign with an undefeated run.
India, therefore, will face Pakistan, which finished as the Pool B runner-up, in the semifinal on October 1, Thursday, at 1pm IST. It will be played at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.
India had secured its place in the semifinals with a 2-0 win over Japan earlier in the group stage.
