The Lisa Page Literary Education Fellowship 2025, offered by PEN/Faulkner, is a prestigious, one-year, part-time teaching and literary engagement fellowship with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Named after the esteemed former PEN/Faulkner board member Lisa Page, this opportunity invites one dedicated fiction writer to join PEN/Faulkner’s Education Programs team to bring the transformative power of fiction directly to students in DC public schools.

What You’ll Be Doing?
As the 2025 Lisa Page Literary Education Fellow, your year will be spent immersing yourself in local schools and communities, sharing your craft and inspiring the next generation of readers and writers. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Leading 24 fiction sessions across two DC schools through the Writers in Residence program.
- Conducting 40 workshops in schools as part of the Writing Workshops initiative.
- Facilitating 75+ author visits across the Writers in Schools and Nuestras Voces programs.
- Collaborating on program operations: from coordinating author visits to maintaining databases, ordering books, and engaging with educators.
You’ll also support PEN/Faulkner’s wider programming, attend staff meetings, and play a role in the organization’s public literary events.

Who Should Apply?
This fellowship is designed for fiction writers who have teaching experience and a sincere interest in working with young learners across grades 3–12.
Ideal Candidates Should:

- Be actively engaged in a creative writing practice.
- Have experience teaching or mentoring youth or community groups—especially from Black, Latinx, or low-income backgrounds.
- Feel comfortable designing skills-based creative writing lessons.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills.
- Be eager to take creative risks and embrace the process.
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a background check and drug/alcohol test for working in DC schools.
- Spanish-speaking applicants are strongly encouraged to apply, as ~20% of programming serves bilingual learners.
- Must be available Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM–3 PM starting September 1, 2025.
- Must reside in or be willing to travel throughout Washington, DC neighborhoods.
Compensation & Benefits
The 2025 Lisa Page Fellow will receive:
- Annual stipend of $30,000
- Subsidized health, dental, and vision coverage

Applications for the Lisa Page Literary Education Fellowship 2025 will be accepted from May 30 to June 21, 2025. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will begin in July 2025, and the fellowship will officially commence on September 1, 2025, continuing for a 39-week academic year until early summer 2026.
