Punjab Govt to Launch Interest-Free E-Taxi Program for Unemployed Youth

The Punjab government is stepping up with a bold new initiative to tackle unemployment and promote eco-friendly transport. A new Interest-Free E-Taxi Program is being introduced, where the government will provide 1,100 electric taxis to eligible youth on easy, interest-free installments.

This smart move is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s broader “Green Punjab Vision 2025”, aimed at replacing fuel-based taxis with clean, electric alternatives. These zero-emission taxis will not only reduce pollution but also create thousands of job opportunities for jobless youth across the province.

The scheme allows selected candidates to own their own electric taxi without the stress of high costs or markup. The installment plan will be completely interest-free, removing the biggest hurdle for low-income individuals trying to start a driving career.

The first phase will distribute Honri VC20 and VC30 models, assembled locally by Dewan Motors. These models offer driving ranges of 200 km and 300 km per full charge, making them ideal for daily urban use.

Supportive Charging Network Across Punjab

To ensure smooth operation of these taxis, a comprehensive EV charging network is being developed across Punjab. In Lahore, charging stations will be installed every 3 kilometers, and more stations are planned for other cities and towns in the province.

This infrastructure will make it easy for drivers to keep their vehicles charged and ready to serve passengers without any major downtime.

Inclusive & Simple Application Process

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan announced that the application process will be easy and inclusive. Special consideration will be given to:

  • Women
  • Residents of rural areas
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Young job seekers from low-income families

The government aims to make sure that those who truly need this opportunity can access it without complex paperwork or long waiting periods.

A Step Toward a Greener, Fairer Punjab

This program reflects the government’s strong commitment to clean energy, economic empowerment, and social inclusion. It’s not just about handing out cars—it’s about giving people the tools to build their future while contributing to a healthier environment.

With official launch announcements expected in the coming weeks, the Punjab E-Taxi Program is set to make a major impact on both employment and environmental sustainability.
