Hyderabad, 9 September 2026: The 6th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2026 being held in Hyderabad, Telangana, saw the pool stage concluding on Wednesday, with top two teams from each of the four pools making it to the quarter-finals.
Here’s how the quarter-finals line up – scheduled for September 11 after a rest day in the tournament on Thursday.
Quarter-final 1: Petroleum Sports Promotion Board vs Sports Authority of India
Quarter-final 2: Railway Sports Promotion Board vs Central Board of Direct Taxes
Quarter-final 3: Comptroller & Auditor General of India vs Punjab National Bank
Quarter-final 4: All India Police Sports Control Board vs Food Corporation of India
The most competitive matches on the final day of the first stage were played in Pool D. Here’s a brief description of all the eight matches played on Wednesday.
Pool A
Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) secured full points with their comprehensive 6–1 win over the ITBP Central Hockey Team. Gurjot Singh led PSPB’s victory with his two goals. Sudeep Chirmako, Ravneet Singh, Talwinder Singh and captain Devindar Walmiki were the other scorers for the victorious team. Sahil Malik struck the lone goal for ITBP side.
Punjab National Bank (PNB) blanked Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 5-0. Gursimran Singh led the scoring with his brace, while Vishal Antil, Abhimanyu and captain Shivdeep scored once each in their team’s dominant win.
Pool B
Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) registered a comfortable 5–2 victory over Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Prabhdeep Singh, Jaskaran Singh, Harmanjeet Singh, Araijeet Singh Hundal and Harmanjit Singh scored once apiece. For CRPF, Samsher showed some fight with his two goals.
Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) hammered Defence Accounts Sports Control Board (DASCB) 10–2. Sudev B Abharan led CAG’s big win with four goals, while Angad Bir Singh scored a brace. Gurmukh Singh, Amandeep, Mohammed Raheel and Ganapathi H Thrishul scored one goal each. The two consolation goals for DASCB came off the sticks of Alok Sharma and Srijan Yadav.
Pool C
Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) got the better of Union Bank of India (UBI) 5–2. A brace each by Selvaraj Kanagaraj and Atish Dodrai scripted a facile victory for SSCB, while Akshay Dubey added a fifth goal for the winners. Ramesh Patare Kartik and Mohammad Zameer scored the two goals for the UBI team.
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) went past Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) 7–4. Captain Karthi S starred for CBDT with a hat-trick to lead an impressive win, with contributions also coming in the form of goals from Nachappa Ir, Machaiah Pa, Thokchom Singh and Likhith Bm. The SPSB team fought back on occasions, chiefly through two goals from their captain Rohit Ekka but were left behind in the end despite two more goals added by Krishna Mohan and Adisan Minj.
Pool D
Food Corporation of India (FCI) fought it out for a 3–1 win over Canara Bank. Pruthvi Raj put Canara Bank ahead but FCI rallied with goals from Ritik Kujur, Navraj Singh and Paramvir Singh to register a fine comeback win.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) edged out Tamil Nadu Police in a closely-fought encounter to bag a 5-3 victory. Raman’s second goal of the match and Govind Singh Bisht’s penultimate-minute strike proved to be the clincher for CISF, after Kerobin Lakra opened scoring early for them, followed by goals from Manoj Yadav and Raman. Tamil Nadu Police fought well before falling behind in the end despite two goals from Mathan M and one from Nandhakrishnan K.
