About the Scholarship
The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, in collaboration with the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), is offering scholarships for a Master’s in Public Health or MSc in Applied Health Social Science with a focus on Implementation Research (IR).

This program aims to build expertise in tackling four major global health challenges:

- Epidemics and outbreaks
- Control and elimination of diseases of poverty
- Climate change’s impact on health
- Antimicrobial resistance.
Scholars will receive hands-on training in Implementation Research, a field that identifies health system barriers and develops effective solutions, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The program includes on-campus teaching in Accra, Ghana, and a research dissertation project focused on IR in the context of infectious diseases of poverty.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must:

- Be a national and resident of an English-speaking WHO African region country
- Be 37 years old or younger
- Meet the University of Ghana’s admission requirements for local or international graduate students
- Be proficient in English
- Be currently employed at an academic/research institution, non-profit organization, or Ministry of Health in an LMIC
- Be able to identify a local supervisor/mentor before starting the program
- Have computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data analysis software.
Applications will be assessed based on academic merit, gender, and geographic representation, with priority given to candidates with Implementation Research experience in the relevant global health challenges.
The application call opens on 21st February 2025. The TDR Scholarship application deadline is 4th May 2025, followed by the University of Ghana application deadline on 15th June 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 15th July 2025, with the final selection announcement on 30th July 2025.
The academic program officially begins in September 2025.
