Nanyang Technological University ranked second worldwide, behind China’s Tsinghua University, while the National University of Singapore placed eighth.
Mainland China dominated the rankings with seven universities in the global top 10. Hong Kong Polytechnic University was the only other Asian institution in the top tier, ranking sixth.

The highest-ranked university outside Asia was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the U.S., which placed 12th. Europe’s best-performing institutions were Switzerland’s ETH Zurich and the U.K.’s Imperial College London, ranking 14th and 19th, respectively.
Engineering was the largest of the 51 subject rankings published by U.S. News in June, evaluating 1,614 universities worldwide.
The rankings measured research performance using publications from 2020 to 2024 and citations through Nov. 25, 2025. Universities were assessed across 12 indicators and were required to publish at least 250 engineering papers during the five-year period to qualify.

Singapore, ranked the world’s second-richest country by GDP per capita in 2025 by The Economist, also had a third institution in the rankings, with the Singapore University of Technology and Design placing 255th.
Malaysia had the largest number of Southeast Asian universities in the engineering rankings, with 19 institutions. Vietnam had 11 representatives, led by Duy Tan University in Da Nang, central Vietnam, at 220th.
Beyond engineering, Singaporean universities also ranked among the global top 10 in several other disciplines, including artificial intelligence, computer science, electrical and electronic engineering, and materials science.
